Glasswing Butterfly “The Little Wonder”

In the beginning God created… Genesis 1:1

Let me introduce you to Greta oto, the “Glasswing” butterfly.  As you quickly observe  this butterfly’s wings are almost completely transparent.  That’s right, you can see right through them!

This trait makes this butterfly quite unique and adds additional fascination to yet another one of God’s magnificent creations.

Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind…” Genesis 1:24

long migrations (up to 12 miles per day) and participates  in lekking, a gathering (arena style) of males for the competitive purpose of courtship display (click on link to learn more about this fascinating gathering).

Then God said, “I have given you everything that moves on earth…”  Genesis 1:29

In addition, the toxins in plants that Greta oto consumed as a caterpillar (nightshade/solanum)  transfers into its adult tissue as distasteful alkaloids.  Needless to say it is not high on the flavor list and avoided by most birds.

God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good.  Genesis 1:30

glasswingFor you to see this intriguing little gem, up close, and personal, will require a trip – destination – the South American Rainforest (Mexico to Panama), where little Greta oto can be seen quiet commonly feasting on the nectar of tropical rain-forest flowers while fluttering its translucent shimmery wings in the sunlight like polished panes of glass.

For great is the Lord and greatly to be praised…  1Chronicles 16:25

Just when I think I’ve seen it all, either in person or picture, I am more than pleasantly surprised to find that I am just a novice observer in a world that I sometimes take for granted.

Then God blessed them saying” Be fruitful and multiply…” Genesis 1:28

  1. Great picture and text! Never thought about a color palette having a “clear” option on it but God does know how to make them unique!
