The Shroud of Turin is a centuries old linen cloth bearing the image of a crucified man. A man that millions believe to be Jesus Christ.
Modern science has completed hundreds of thousands of hours of detailed study and intense research on the Shroud. It is, in fact, the single most studied artifact in human history, and we know more about it today than we ever have before.
It was once thought that the Shroud was a forgery of an artist. However, with new technology, those thoughts have been dismissed and even though carbon dating is still a debatable issue, the one thing that all scientist agree upon is the mystery of how the image came to be. They simply can not explain it, it is beyond human creation.
In this new documentary, Computer Graphic Artist, Ray Downing is on a mission to” resurrect the face of Jesus Christ as a living, moving 3D image.” It is a task that he has been devoted to for years and has now completed.

I heard the carbon dating they did years ago was from a section of the shroud that was repaired after it was damaged by fire centuries ago. And that that section they tested was dated to around the time of the fire. Have you heard that? I really like your photographic eye by the way, and the subjects you choose 🙂

I also heard the same concerning the carbon dating. That information can be found on a previous post that I featured on the Shroud a few years ago at https://dshiflett.wordpress.com/2009/09/09/the-shroud-of-turin/
Until the church that possesses the Shroud allows scientist to cut a section close to the image, the carbon dated test will always be a factor to contend with.

The Shroud may always remain a mystery, but I am afraid that even if the truth is found – it may not be revealed or accepted. I think it may be like everything else that surrounds the Christ – faith and acceptance.

There is no doubt that the Shroud of Turin continues to be a subject for debate. It seems to be a touchy subject, an object that causes agitation for some, frustration for others, and intrigue for even the most complex of scientific minds.
What has always caught my attention, agreed upon by both the scientific community and religious historians, is the fact that the image imbedded into the Shroud is a photo negative. They simply do not know how this phenomenon occurred and can not, even in the high tech era of our time, be explained or recreated.
No matter what other things are disclosed about the Shroud, it is this one single phenomenon that causes continued investigation and begs several unsolved and unresolved questions.
The Shroud of Turin exist that is a fact. The question is….why?

I never saw my uncle who died in WWII before I was born but I know his real face..
How? From photographs. I think of the Shroud as an unexplainable photo.
