Redeemed 101

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is anyone who is hung on a cross. Galatians 3:13

The word Redeemed is classified as a verb and a verb expresses action, state, or a relation between two things.

The dictionary defines redeemed as follows;

To buy or pay off a debt
To buy back
To recover by payment
To exchange
To convert

Synonyms

Repurchase. 2. Regain possession of, or exchange. 3. To ransom is to redeem a person from captivity by paying a stipulated price. 4. To free, liberate, rescue, save.

Antonym – Abandon. It is this antonym that God could not abide by.

God did not create mankind to be separated from Him. The relationship between God and humanity was meant to be a companionship. A friendship. But an act of disobedience (a choice) changed that and because God is Holy He had (no choice) but to separate from the fellowship. But this separation did not mean that God would abandon.

Seems like all I could see was the struggle…Haunted by ghosts that lived in my past…Bound up in shackles of all my failures…Wondering how long is this gonna last.

God (chose) to make a plan of redemption. A way to redeem mankind and restore the relationship. But it required payment to pay off the debt of sin. Payment to buy back and to recover from sin. Payment to exchange and convert from sin. Payment to free, to rescue, to save from sin.

That payment was paid for by the sacrifice of His son, Jesus Christ. Who took on our debt (by choice) and suffered our price. Why? because He would not abandon us. He (chose) to redeem us.

Now all that is left rest in humanity’s hands (a choice) to remain abandoned or to be redeemed.

Then You look at this prisoner and say to me “son… Stop fighting a fight it’s already been won”… I am redeemed, You set me free

So I’ll shake off these heavy chains…Wipe away every stain, now I’m not who I used to be…I am redeemed.

All my life I have been called unworthy…Named by the voice of my shame and regret…But when I hear You whisper, “Child lift up your head”…I remember, oh God, You’re not done with me yet…I am redeemed, You set me free

Because I don’t have to be the old man inside of me…’Cause his day is long dead and gone…Because I’ve got a new name, a new life, I’m not the same…And a hope that will carry me home
